Sunrise over Kansas
Every now and then when I took my morening ride the clouds would cooperate for me. I really like how clouds define the sky and add definition to the landscape. Big blue skys are wonderful but the added structure of good cloud formations really helps. This picture was taken on a farm a few miles north of Riley in Northeast Kansas.

how far is infinity?
"Exactly!", the teacher picked it immediately, "we don't know, and that's why it's undefined and we call it something vague, like infinite!" :P

In the 50h forest monitoring plot, each tree with a trunk diameter of greater than 10mm get geo-referenced, tagged, and a full bio-survey. Researchers will survey the plot every 3-5 years, so over time, we can build up a rich GIS map of the plot, showing the dynamics over time. This will allow valuable insight into the functioning of PNG's rainforest ecosystems

This grey seal has been nicknamed Rope-neck by the wardens at Donna Nook because of the scar around her neck from an old injury, making her easily identifiable.
She comes back to practically the same spot on the dunes to give birth every year and has a kind of a plaque on the fence where she "lives" for a few weeks each year, telling visitors her story.
This series shows her in the next photo down, trying to get her pup to feed by tickling it with her flipper, but, the pup just wants to play..........
photos all taken from behind the fence on the path.

Peaking through the summer foliage at the upper falls.
Our day in Yellowstone was cut short when a summer storm rolled in. I don't remember anyone complaining, though; we rolled across the border to Gardiner, Montana, and found ourselves a little pizza joint/brewery. A nice place to compare war stories.

(Pardon the terrible title, not feeling tvery original at the moment!) Today I made a very much impulsive visit to the Top of the Rock. As I waited in line after line surrounded my scores of tourists, I started questioning my decision. The $50 I paid for 2 tickets whispering negative thoughts to me. Today, however, mother nature did not disappoint. Beautiful ambiance and cloud porn was the order of the evening! It was enough to make one forget the chaos below on the streets of NYC. (And more importantly the $50 I paid for my 2nd visit to the rock!)

Canning Dock is a dock, on the River Mersey, England and part of the Port of Liverpool. It is situated in the southern dock system, connected to Salthouse Dock to the south and Canning Half Tide Dock to the west. The Canning Graving Docks are accessed from the dock.
The dock was opened in 1737 as a protected tidal basin providing an entrance to Old Dock. Having been subsequently enclosed as a wet dock three years earlier, in 1832 it was officially named after the Liverpool MP, George Canning. To the east is the site of Old Dock, built in 1709, this was the world first enclosed dock. Canning Dock would have initially served ships involved in the trans Atlantic slave trade.
Access to the northern half of the dock system was via Georges Dock, George's Basin and into Princes Dock. In 1899, both Georges Basin and George's Dock were filled in and the site is now the Pier Head.
Along with the Albert Dock and others in the immediate vicinity, Canning Dock was abandoned as a commercial shipping facility in 1972 due to the rising cost of dredging and falling numbers in traffic. It was restored in the 1980s and provides access to the Canning Graving Docks, which are part of the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
By March 2009 work was completed on a 22 million extension of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, providing a further 1.4 miles of navigable waterway.
From Princes Dock, the extension passes the Pier Head and terminates at Canning Dock. The extension includes a small basin at Mann Island, in the vicinity of the Pier Head, and a new lock providing access to Canning Dock.
